Brands were invisible. So we built the layer that makes them legible.

We’re engineers from Carnegie Mellon and researchers at CLeaR Lab. We spent months studying how ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini actually pick products, then built the causal-inference layer that gives brands SKU-level intelligence in those channels, not surface-level dashboards.

04 · Thesis

The Agentic OS for AI Commerce. Founded at Carnegie Mellon.

Shopthru.ai is building the operating system commerce will run on once the buyer is an agent. Not a dashboard. Not a copilot. The substrate underneath.

We started Shopthru.ai at Carnegie Mellon in 2025, between the language technologies labs and the Tepper studios. The premise was simple. The next billion shoppers wouldn’t be human, and the brands that won them wouldn’t be the ones with the best landing pages. They’d be the ones the agents trusted.

Most of what calls itself AI in commerce today is an assistant that suggests. We’re building agents that act. Agents that audit your visibility across the LLMs that matter, fix the gaps in your context, prove the lift in simulation, and ship the change to production with a human in the loop. The whole loop, end to end, on rails.

We’re shipping the OS, not the SaaS. A protocol layer for brands that intend to be picked, not just listed.
